Hello, minions!

It seems a little boring to start things off by declaring “I’VE BEEN TAGGED,” but… I mean…

I’ve been tagged.

By Kinsey @Over the Withers, to be precise, and with the 20 Questions Book Tag. Which means I’ve been given free license to scream about books for the next 7.2 minutes of your life.

Everyone wins, amiright?

Let’s get started.

How many books do you think are too many books in a book series?

One is a stand-alone, Two is not enough, Three is a perfect trilogy, Four seems like overkill, Five is a perfect series, and Six is pushing it.

You can tell how much I’ve thought about this…

 

How do you feel about cliffhangers?

Generally, I’m in favor of them.

As long as they’re mine and I already know what happens next.

 

Hardback or paperback?

Books are books, regardless of cover style. HOWEVER, I can let the uncultured masses (otherwise known as siblings) read hardcovers without having to worry about the spine being damaged or the cover bent. So hardcovers for the win.

 

Favorite book?

Least favorite book?

Um… Redwall? Eragon? The Orphan Train saga?

Divergent…? (Which I’ve never read, but hate anyway.) I dunno, man. I have a lot of least favorite books.

 

Love-triangles, yes or no?

The most recent book you just couldn’t finish?

Wildwood by Colin Meloy. It did not do it’s beautiful cover justice at. all.

Can you say BORING? ‘Cause I sure can.

 

A book you’re currently reading?

Honey Butter by Millie Florence.

*dissolves into happy sunbeams and summer sparkles* This one makes me happy.

 

Last book you recommended to someone?

There are several girls at my church who are also avid readers, and every time we see each other we basically just spend our time swapping book-recommendations. I think the latest was when I packed one of them off with my copy of Burning Rose by Hope Schmidt and told her to look up the Out of Time trilogy by Nadine Brandes.

(She did. And read it. And we’ve been dying together ever since.)

 

Oldest book you’ve read?

Uh… the Bible…?

 

Newest book you’ve read?

The Last of the Lost Boys by N.D. Wilson. It was so new when I bought it last year that it wasn’t even available in paperback yet.

So I got a hardcover. *dramatically clutches heart* WHAT a shame.

 

Favorite Author?

Do you you want me to list them alphabetically, or in order of time-period? Because we could be here for a long, looong time.

 

Buying books or borrowing books?

“BUYING BOOKS,” she screeches, knowing full-well she’s broke and can’t afford any of them.

 

A book you dislike that everyone else seems to love?

Sadly, there are many of these. People have such poor taste in literature. *judges humanity*

My current pet-peeve is A Time to Speak by Nadine Brandes. (But before you yell at me, let me make it clear that I LOVED THE OTHER TWO. So there.) I refuse to believe that hundreds of people can camp out in Antarctica WITHOUT COATS and not die.

Bookmarks or dog-ears?

A book you can always re-read?

If it has ‘Narnia’ on the cover, watch me steal it from you and devote the next two weeks of my life to it.

 

Can you read while hearing music?

“Uh, YEAH,” I say.

“Uh, NO,” says my brain as I reread the page six times because I kept zoning out.

 

One POV or multiple POVs?

My problem with multiple POVs is that the author usually spends way, waaaay too much time with a character I don’t like. So… only one POV for me, please.

(Unless you’re Tolkien. Tolkien can do what he likes.)

 

Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?

“I like to spread it out and savor it,” I say as I stay up until two o’ clock in the morning to finish the thing and see if Macbeth gets what’s coming to him.

So… yeah! There you go.

        1. YAAAAHOOOO!!! Oh, that is by far one of my favorite Tolkien books. I don’t even know why, it just is. Some of the more… geographical parts… are a little boring, but there are so many different characters and components and GAH, it’s wonderful. I’m so glad you’re enjoying it!!

          …aren’t the names confusing though? 😂

          1. YES! I’m reading the chapter “Of the Nolder in Beleriand” and its a little… hard to get through… but other than that, its really good! And yes, the names can be a little confusing, I agree. Especially all of the F-names such as Finrod, Fingolfin, Felagund, and Feanor. XD

                1. Of course you do. Isn’t that what all writers secretly strive for? To bind the hearts of their readers with cords so tightly that when the fire burns them through, it sears the flesh as well? To construct for them castles in the sky, and then tear them down, brick by brick? To earn their trust and then crush their hopeful souls?
                  Eh, maybe not exactly. But to a certain extent, perhaps. 😉

                    1. Hey, the poetry was all hers. XD I’ve never possessed the ability to wax poetic over my own work while keeping a straight face.

              So funny!
              Prolly the most books I’ve ever seen in a series is the How To Train Your Dragon series, which has 12 books. I would say, oof waaaay to much, but with the actual storyline (very much not-movie) it makes a lot of sense. You’d otherwise have such looong books!

  5. Thank you for the laughter. This is midterm week, so the break was quite enjoyable. 😀
    And YES to the dog-ear thing. There’s enough concurrence here, we could probably get a petition going… XD

  6. Oh dear I dog-ear books all the time and actually enjoy reading books that others have dog-eared to show their appreciation. I know, I’m an unusual book-dragon. Many apologies. YES on Narnia, I will read those books so much it’s ridiculous. I think I aged a paperback copy two decades in one week I read it so much.

  8. I agree; when people write multiple points of view in one story, it always seems to spend more time with the character I don’t like 😂

  9. Are you dissing the book Redwall, or the entire series? Because, as someone who spent the early days of her childhood avidly devouring and loving those books, I concur that the first book is a bit boring, but have you read them all? Some of those books are beautiful!

    All that to say–talking animals and 25-book-long series aren’t everyone’s thing. I just want to make sure you clarify what you’re discussing.

    But why would you dog-ear a book when you can use one of those cool, built-in ribbon bookmarks? Those are without a doubt the best kind.

  12. I loved your answers, Sarah! 😀 I’m totally with you about series length, dog-ears, Divergent, and Eragon. *shudder* And some other things you mentioned. I was surprised you hate Redwall! I did like the first one or two, but it got really old, really fast, cause *every book is the same*. My little brother read every single one over and over, but I only read, like, three or four, and got bored. XD

    1. Oh, and about love triangles. I’m with you on that too. Totally. XD (INCLUDING KILI/TAURIEL/LEGOLAS. Which I despise for more reasons than just the love triangle aspect. No offense if you differ from me on that! The Hobbit movies made me somewhat of a Tolkien purist.)

  13. My dog has ears, cute fluffy ones…. I have no problem with dog ears ;)….. also, N.D. Wilson is amazing, and Outlaws of Time is one of my all time fav trilogies
