The Young Author Project // let’s spread some wisdom

Hello, folks.

*slams down coffee mug and props feet on table*

If you were expecting a random 1,000 word ramble of flippant silliness this Thursday, think again. Today, I come proffering something even cooler. Prepare yourself for the rare burst of professionalism I feel swelling in my soul as I explain this thing.

*dramatic music*

*dark voiceover*

Are you a young writer?

*music cuts out*

Aaaaaand that’s all the professionalism I have room for. Let’s cut to the chase, shall we?

Being a fledgling author is scary.

We’ve all been young and naive and clueless at some point in our lives. Many of us still are. Young writers often grasp the immensity of the project they’re embarking on, but at the same time, have no idea how to properly carry that immensity so their book isn’t crushed beneath the weight. Why do you think my novel has already gone through three rewrites, and I’m still working on it?

‘Cause I didn’t know what I was doing when I started.

(Duh.)

Writing is a hard task. Knowing how to write is even harder.

And that’s why I’m so excited to introduce the Young Author Project.

*makes way for the pretty banner*

My wonderful friend and Fairy Writemother (yes, that’s a thing) Kate Flournoy has put together a survey so writers can help the past versions of ourselves — the ones who were dying slow and painful deaths from the “I DON’T KNOW WHAT I’M DOING” syndrome — break free from the swamp of their ignorance.

Come on, we all know there’s that one thing that would’ve made our writing journey SO. MUCH. EASIER. if we’d only known it sooner. Now, you can share that one thing with others.

Check it out:

The Young Author Project

Dig in, loonies. Let’s spread this thing across the internet. Tell people about it. Send it to your friends. Share it with your followers. Let’s overflow the writing community with wisdom.

Also, Kate will soon be publishing her debut book (and believe me, it’s gonna be good) (a steampunk fairytale — don’t tell me that’s not cool), so seriously, go check out her blog. You won’t regret it.

(Okay, I’m done gushing about my friends.)

(Also, being professional is exhausting. This post nearly killed me.)

Have a great week, guys, and don’t get abducted by Santa Claus!

~Sarah
